Winter Sale - Louisianna Patchwork Mixed Media - Student Painting - Winter Wonderland Weekend Windfa - Arts & Crafts
This piece is a visual representation of how societal blending shapes a given location. I researched traditional patchwork patterns used in the southern United States to fill in this map of the State of Louisiana. The bees symbolize the conventional assembly of women making a quilt, a "Quilting bee," and the time, hard work, creativity, and industry that a completed quilt represents. Quilts also represent the legacy of culture being passed on from generation to generation. Piece measurements are 19 5/8 x 23 7/8 inches. It is comprised of a collage of fabric and paper on a wooden panel. The outline was burned into the wood prior to attaching the quilt pieces. The bees were added using a linoleum stamp and acrylic paint.
