Fishing has never been a big part of my life. When I was about 10 I caught a catfish in the Missouri River but that memory was superseded by other parts of the vacation which were horrible. My dad tried to take us fishing a few times. I never cared for it and would have preferred to read a book-- which you CAN do while fishing but part of my family's DNA was "let's not try to make anything less tedious than it already is." When the kids were younger we bought fishing poles with the idea of taking them fishing in the pond near our house. They went on their own one day and got one rod hopelessly snarled and the other caught in a tree. In. A. Tree. Since then I've taken the boys twice to "Cops and Bobbers," a free fishing event sponsored by the local police. JT caught a bluegill one year. - "My Life As A Fisherman," a play in one act.
